The Artist:
Photographer Jen Sherrick
has been passionate about art since she was a young child. It
wasn't until she became a mother that she discovered the art
of photography as her real niche. After her first trips to the
"portrait studio" with her first child, she quickly realized
that these portraits were not capturing the emotion and
personality that defined her daughter. Through her love for
photography and desire to learn how to capture "real life" as
she puts it, she started her own photography business in 2005.
The Style:
Jen’s style has been described
by others as "magazine-like". She likes to think of it as non-traditional and
journalistic. While Jen specializes in the timeless look of black and white,
she still has a keen eye for color. Jen only uses natural light to bring out
shadows and highlights in her portraits.
The Session:
All sessions take place
on-location of her client's choice (often their home or a favorite park) and
are never rushed. In fact, breaks for refueling are encouraged. Most sessions
generally last 1-2 hours. The goal of each session is to capture the unique
personality of the child... and that is never a result of saying "cheese"! Jen
finds that the most cherished moments are those where the children are at play
just being themselves.
Jen starts the session with getting to know each child and
forming a relationship. For many children, she finds that children are more at
ease when parents are not coaxing them along...just somewhere nearby.
Each photo will be hand edited and processed with cutting edge
technology and equipment. In most cases, editing and processing are complete
within 2 weeks. At this time, approximately 20-40 photos will be uploaded to
your very own private online gallery, allowing you the freedom to take your
time picking out your favorite photographs. These gallaries are made available
to you for seven (7) days and can be extended for a small charge. Photos will
be kept on file for one year.
Jen is usually booked for several months in advance. Please contact her soon if you are interested in booking. She leaves room in her schedule for newborn sessions so please contact her before the birth of your baby to set up a tentative session.
Frequently Asked Questions:
We would like to book you to photograph our children. What should they wear?
It’s best to avoid busy patterns and logos as they can be distracting. Jeans, khakis, T-shirts, simple dresses and bare feet are always a big hit. Rather than dressing your children in matching outfits, Jen's style is more targeted toward outfits that coordinate in color.
We would love to have you
photograph our newborn baby. What age is best?
Newborns photograph best in their bare skin
and within the first 2 weeks of age.
Can you work my husband and I in
with the kids' portraits?
While Jen
specializes in children’s photography, she often photographs
Moms and Dads interacting as a family. Since she takes a
journalistic approach to her work, she prefers to capture
families hanging out together rather than traditional
posing.
We are expecting and want to
capture Mom's pregnancy. When is the best time to do
this?
Jen has found
that Maternity sessions scheduled between 32-34 weeks produce the best results.
